ABOUT THE ARTIST

Clifford Coffin was born in 1913 in Illinois, USA. Even before taking a position as an assistant at British Vogue, he was already renowned for his work in American Vogue and Glamour. Starting in the mid-1940s, Coffin worked as a photographer for the American, British, and French editions of Vogue. In that time, his photographs also appeared in Glamour and Le Jardin des Modes. Clifford Coffin did not only make a name for himself as a fashion photographer; his photographs of famous personalities such as Truman Capote, Tennessee Williams, Christian Dior and Henri Matisse also garnered a lot of attention.
