IntroductionAbout the Non-Violence Art Project
Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd created the bronze sculpture "Non-Violence" in 1985 as an homage to John Lennon, who was shot in New York in December of 1980. This sculpture, a gun disarmed, now stands in 16 places around the world as a symbol of peace and non-violence.
The non-profit organization Non-Violence Project Foundation has made its goal to promote world peace through educational initiatives. As part of the Non-Violence Art Project, world-famous personalities such as Yoko Ono and Muhammad Ali create their own versions of the knotted-barrel revolver. A portion of the proceeds from these sculptures benefits the initiative.
About Ringo Starr
As the drummer for The Beatles, Ringo Starr became a musical legend. Rolling Stone magazine puts him at number 14 on its list of the top 100 drummers of all time. Over the course of his career, Starr has collaborated with a veritable Who’s Who of musicians including Ozzy Osbourne, Steven Tyler, and Alanis Morissette, to name a few.
The British musician has been recognized for his political engagement time and time again. His protest song, “Sun City”, took a stand against apartheid, and he has taken part in benefit concerts including Concert for Bangladesh and Change Beings Within. For the Non-Violence Art Project, Ringo Starr has called for colleagues from all genres to come together to make a statement against violence.BioRingo Starr was born Richard Starkey in Liverpool in 1940. Starting in the early 1960s, he was the drummer for The Beatles. After The Beatles disbanded, Starr pursued a solo career and enjoyed later success with his All-Starr Band.
