Background Information about Richard Rutledge

In his work’s aesthetics, Richard Rutledge followed the contemporary enthusiasm for colour photography, playfully exploiting the medium’s seemingly endless possibilities. Rutledge viewed photography as a kind of theatre, with no detail going unnoticed in his elegant compositions. He implemented his pieces with tenderness and a reduced colour palette, but he also used powerful individual elements as a source of constant surprise. In the image “Snapshot”, it is the model’s elaborately decorated swimming cap. It is no surprise that the photographer has produced countless cover photos for American Vogue. At an early stage, the famous publisher, Condé Montrose Nast, recognised Rutledge’s unique talent for poetic poses and charming scenes.
