Background Information about Peter Funch

Introduction

Five Minutes of Anarchy

The Danish photo designer, Peter Funch (*1974), has managed to collect a series of impressive awards over the last decade, arousing curiosity over his new works that originated out of a spectacular image campaign.
It was an impressive spectacle when Sony let loose 250 thousand shockingly colorful superballs in the streets of San Francisco. Peter Funch was there to take really amazing photographs in which you have to look twice to believe what you are seeing: an unleashed mass of small, colorful balls hopping down the hills, past the American emblems of normality. The unloaded automobiles parked in front of wooden row houses interfere with an established sedateness, with which unrestrained anarchy suddenly interferes. In a few minutes the show will be over, and the residents who noticed it will rub their eyes. But this moment, with its crazy vitality, will live on in Peter Funch’s photographs. What we got to see is a child’s dream that left everyone, who managed to preserve such childhood dreams, in a great mood.

Peter Funch currently lives and works in Paris, France. Prior to that, he resided in New York for 13 years, where he worked as a photographer. Funch graduated as a photojournalist from the Danish School of Journalism in 1999. His still images often combine storytelling with a perceptive social commentary in a cinematic visual language, in which his technical expertise blend together with his Nordic tranquility and dry humor.

Funch works internationally on various projects including publications, editorials, advertising, and exhibitions.

In addition, the photojournalist was invited to the renowned 10th World Press Photo master class with Joob Swart. He regularly takes part in international exhibitions as a freelance photographer.
